What the Left really thinks about our Veterans

Take a look at the "karma" rating the Memorial Day post is getting on an increasingly leftist and intolerant blog; Connecticut Local Politics.

If a tribute to our Veterans is getting zonked with "negatives"; that should speak volumes as to just what the left really thinks....and why the left really stinks.

Here they burn both an American Flag and a US soldier in effigy.

  1. I don't see how trying to stop dialogue about an Abe Giles candidacy for the 5th District is a tribute to veterans.

Surely, it should be up to the management of CTLP to decide whether to shut it down for the holiday.

I'm as patriotic as they get, but I think that one of the best ways to honor our veterans would be to exercise the first amendment rights that they fought to protect.

  2. Not a "shut down" - but a little decorum for a day or so might have been nice - and that's all I sought.

Instead of the constant "gotcha" politics accompanied by endless attacks.

  3. The Hartford Dems convention was Friday the 23rd. CTLP published its blog posting late Friday night (technically, 12:35am Saturday the 24th).

Memorial Day is Monday the 26th - two full days later. And the only CTLP post that day was a list of all soldiers who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Abe Giles (whose name is linked with certain scandals) defeating an incumbent at the convention held hours prior is news, and it's not CTLP's fault that the convention was held on Friday. Should there have been a three-day news blackout where nobody can comment on anything newsworthy?

Your comment on the CTLP website is not about your Memorial Day post. I thought the post on your website was a great tribute. Your CTLP post is a criticism of Genghis for writing something negative on what had just become, 35 minutes prior, the weekend connected with Memorial Day, and it happens to have a link to your Memorial Day post. What was getting "zonked with 'negatives'" was your attitude that there is a no-negative-speech zone around Memorial Day. Should there be a similar zone around July 4th and Veterans' Day, even though neither is guaranteed as part of a holiday weekend? Who gets to determine the blackout length? I just think it's too far-reaching to make a request to stop commenting if it's not actually Memorial Day yet.

I agree with you that Memorial Day itself should be a tribute to our soldiers and free from partisan bickering. Indeed, TrueBlueCT's comment on the CTLP Memorial Day post is highly unnecessary on Memorial Day - but that's one leftist. That doesn't represent "the left" nor does it represent what the left allegedly thinks about veterans. Besides, most of the left probably isn't even at their computers on Memorial Day - I know I was at the Memorial Day parade and commemoration ceremony in my town, along with a whole bunch of leftists and rightists - and nobody was protesting or burning things! We were all honoring our country's war dead.

Also, you did get your "decorum for a day or so" - in fact, there were no CTLP blog posts on Sunday or Monday save for the Memorial Day tribute.

Since the photo on this blog post has nothing to do with CTLP, it's sensationalism without purpose. And wait, didn't you say that "Memorial Day is the wrong weekend for divisive politics" - like taking the action (re: the karma rating, or the people in this picture) of a few individuals out of context and smearing an entire ideology with it? As you've done in this post, presented the day before Memorial Day (and a full day after your self-declared blackout on divisive politics)?

I respect your opinion that Memorial Day is not just another Monday. I hope you will respect my opinion that news on Friday can be commented on Saturday, while still fully respecting Monday, and my opinion that your linking all left-wingers with the actions of a few is the same divisive politics that you believe Memorial Day weekend should not have.

  4. You gave no attribution for the photograph. Where and when was it taken?

    You're right.
There's no better way to memorialize those that have made the sacrifice to keep us free than a load of petty squabbling.

It was taken off the internet sometime Saturday the 24th

  6. @ACR: I think you missed my line:
"I agree with you that Memorial Day itself should be a tribute to our soldiers and free from partisan bickering."

    Heh, that was funny.

Of course that image isn't a fair representation of what "the left" feels about Memorial Day. But ACR often uses a certain amount of "artistic license" when making his point. I usually find it humorous.

    Yes....and your point?

    Thanks Bob.
Many take this stuff far too seriously for their own good.
Then they start taking themselves seriously and it's all downhill from there.
