State Rep. Rob Sampson and Sen. Joe Markley helped raise more than $24,000 to help feed local families in need recently.

Teaming up with The Salvation Army, Sampson and Markley ran one of their iconic red collection kettles outside of the Walmart on Queen Street.

Shortly after their hour-long shift started, local firefighters pulled up in an engine and dumped a manila envelope full of money into the pot.

The legislators collected more than $9,000 in checks and more than $3,000 in bills and coins.
