There were only 53 surviving Pilgrims at the 1st Thanksgiving.
(Seems to be a lot more folks than that enjoying the holiday these days.)

As a Native American I'm kinda offended by the photo. Didn't the Indians serve the Pilgrims?
ReplyDeleteThanks mostly to Stephen Hopkins, the only Mayflower passenger who had been to America (Jamestown) before, Plymouth (or Plimoth) was trading with the natives almost immediately.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the period, (South America and the entire Caribbean (Carrib means `cannibal')) were loaded with an entirely different set of natives) Hopkins was considered ballsey.
Post 1629 - 1630 once the horrid Puritans arrived setting up their adjacent Mass Bay Colony all hell broke loose.
