The end of the road

A dark day in America

Good-Bye Pontiac

There are things that simply make no sense.

For example, in 1859 John Brown freed slaves and was hanged for treason for his efforts.

Today however, and for reasons that I have never comprehended, trading with a nation that blocks both our produce and products, and in a predatory fashion subsidizes their exporting companies; to the point of ruining our corporations and costing hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of hard working Americans their very jobs, is considered "OK".

  1. Very sad about Pontiac. I had a 1994 Grand Am in black. Loved that car!

Keep in mind if George Bush was president in 1859, he probably would have labeled John Brown a "terrorist"! And then he probably would have invaded Venezuela or something. :)

    Unlikely.

Bush is descended from Abolitionists - it was, and remains the Democrats that seek to keep others down and "in their place".

Were that not true - why have no Dems called for Brown's posthumous pardon?

  3. "...why have no Dems called for Brown's posthumous pardon?"Because obviously they're bigots and racists. That Obama, he's the worst of 'em!

Don't be silly. We have an economy that's in the toilet because you guys were asleep at the switch for 8 years, with a GOP Congress in power for 6 of 'em, and a president who didn't use his veto power until a frickin' stem cell bill crossed his desk.

They had eight goddamn years to pardon John Brown and they didn't, huh? Now it's OUR fault? Sheesh!

I see the problem clearly now as to why Democrats can't get math issues right.

Brown was hanged 150 years ago this December.

Similarly - someone going back to at least Carter (when the Japanese began openly subsidizing their exporting manufacturers) should have turned a boatload or two of Japanese cars around on the high seas and sent them back.

I'm quite sure they would have fully comprehended such a negotiating tactic and cleaned up their act in a matter of hours.

  5. This is so sad.
The first car I drove was my dad's gold pontiac.
It was built like a tank.
I can't understand why they wouldn't have just sold the line to someone willing to produce these cars.
Oh well, sigh, c'est la vie I suppose.

  6. Seeing as most Pontiacs have been based on common GM platforms, I fail to see where the cost in keeping the nameplate alive is.

This entire affair makes me sick.

We stood by and allowed off shore competitors to behave in a fashion not legal here; forced our companies to comply with FTC regs that had no impact outside of the US on others, and then blame the big 3 for letting it all happen as if it was entirely a disaster of their own creation - which it's not.

  7. Hey, I still miss Oldsmobile! I had a '79 Cutlass Supreme; that was an AWESOME model year!
